WS-3 has a much less minty taste than menthol, although it is produced from a menthol feedstock. It is widely used as a cooling compound as it has a much more pronounced cooling effect compared to menthol and it is odour free.
This widely used product in combination with mint oils, is used to add a freshness boost, having a cooling characteristic between five and ten times in excess of menthol. Use in oral care (toothpaste, mouthwash up to 0.1%), beverages (0.01%), confectionary (0.05%) and chewing gum (0.10%). Product is without noticeable flavour or odour.
